Sycamore Lighting Ltd

A tailored service for Sycamore Lighting Ltd
The Company:
Sycamore Lighting is a leading supplier of LED lighting products within the Kitchen, Bedroom, and Bathroom (KBB) industry. With a comprehensive product range including cabinet lighting, LED drivers, flexible LED strips, LED mirrors and cabinets, and aluminium profiles, the company continues to expand and refine its offerings to meet evolving customer needs.
As Sycamore Lighting underwent significant operational improvements, including a warehouse relocation, it became evident that existing stock management processes were inefficient and required modernisation.
The Need:
Prior to implementing a Warehouse Management System (WMS), Sycamore Lighting relied on manual, paper-based processes to manage stock, order fulfilment, and stocktaking. The business was fully dependent on staff memory to determine stock locations, leading to inefficiencies such as:
- Lack of stock traceability, with no assigned locations in the warehouse.
- Order delays due to misplaced or missing stock.
- Manual stocktaking processes that were time-consuming and prone to errors.
- Lost or misplaced paperwork, resulting in missed or delayed orders.
These inefficiencies hindered scalability, particularly as the company prepared for its warehouse relocation and anticipated growth in order volumes. To support its next phase of development, a modern WMS solution was required.
The Solution:
Sycamore Lighting selected MJM’s WMS system, recommended by its IT provider due to MJM’s 40+ years of experience working with Pegasus Opera ERP systems. Given that Sycamore Lighting already used Opera 3 for stock and order management, it was crucial that the new WMS seamlessly integrated with the existing ERP.
Key reasons for choosing MJM’s WMS included:
- Full integration with Opera 3, ensuring smooth data flow between systems.
- Real-time stock tracking and order management, eliminating reliance on paper-based processes.
- Stock location visibility, significantly improving warehouse operations.
The implementation process was smooth and efficient, taking approximately three months from start to finish. Sycamore Lighting also collaborated with MJM to develop tailored functionalities that aligned with its specific business needs. The system was integrated with DPD to further streamline dispatch operations.
The Benefits:
Since implementing the MJM WMS, Sycamore Lighting has experienced significant improvements in warehouse and order management processes, including:
- Increased Efficiency: Reduced administrative tasks in both warehouse and office operations. Fewer physical paperwork exchanges improve workflow efficiency.
- Enhanced Stock Visibility: Stock locations are now clearly identified, and movements can be tracked in real time.
- Faster and More Accurate Order Fulfilment: Picking errors have been reduced, and fulfilment speed has increased.
- Optimised Stocktaking: The previously time-consuming stocktaking process is now completed significantly faster, reducing downtime.
- Office Staff Productivity: Office personnel can now focus on other critical tasks instead of manually processing orders and printing delivery notes.
- Improved Customer Service: The system’s accuracy and efficiency improvements have led to better order fulfilment rates, reducing delays and improving service levels.
- Business Continuity During Stocktake: Unlike before, where the warehouse had to close for 3-4 days during stocktaking, operations can now remain open while stock audits are performed seamlessly.
Conclusion:
By adopting MJM’s WMS system, Sycamore Lighting has modernised its warehouse operations, reduced inefficiencies, and improved stock management. The seamless integration with Opera 3 and DPD has optimised workflows, while the system’s real-time visibility ensures orders are processed and fulfilled more accurately and efficiently.
