The Need:

As a business, we had been utilising Opera 2 for purchasing, stock management, BOMs, works orders, and dispatch of sales. However, with increasing turnover and product complexity, it became evident that we required a system with greater visibility and accessibility at all levels. Additionally, it was crucial that the new system integrated seamlessly with our accounting systems, which are the cornerstone of our business.

The Solution:

With the assistance of the MJM development team, we trialed the Bridge/WMS stock platform over 12 months to ensure it could meet our requirements. The kickoff meeting established a timeline for completion, defined key areas of responsibility within BAC and MJM, and set the stage for a collaborative effort to achieve our goals. Given the variations in our product offerings, the functionality was tailored to meet the needs of our manufacturing department, with key options for sub-assemblies and assembly configurations.

We viewed this project as an opportunity to enhance our manufacturing and stock management processes by integrating functionalities of the WMS that were previously managed through the accounting software (Opera 2). While Opera 2 managed basic stock activity, visibility was limited. The ability to see all parts of the stock processing within a clear format was a key result of this development.

The Benefits:

The integration and transition of Bridge WMS into our Opera 2 accounting system have brought about several significant benefits:

  • Reduced Administrative Times: With user-friendly printing and automated processes, we have reduced administrative times in stock management, freeing up time to accommodate increased workflow. Stocktaking has become more manageable, with the activity scheduled into the working week to ensure all stock in the perpetual system is counted at least once per year.
  • Enhanced Visibility: We now have clear visibility over work orders, sales orders, purchase orders, and stock levels, aiding in better decision-making, contract progression, and inventory management.
  • Improved Contract Delivery Performance: The increased visibility has enabled the review of contracts at all stages to confirm that all purchase orders/works orders have been placed/completed and that sales order lines can be picked and delivered on time.
  • Improved Flexibility: The enhanced information allows for greater flexibility in managing job requirements, adapting quickly to changes and demands, and providing readily available support.
